Some things never change - and that’s exactly what makes them special. For 22 years now, the Hintertux Park Opening has marked the official start of the new winter season for the international freestyle community. From October 2–4, 2026, Hintertux glacier once again becomes the meeting point of the scene, the first big reunion after summer and the place where winter finally begins again.
What makes the Hintertux Park Opening so unique after more than two decades? A special mix of snowboard action, freeski action since 2025, community spirit, progression and a genuine passion for the sport. No other opening has accompanied the scene so consistently across generations while kicking off winter year after year.
At the center of it all is Betterpark Hintertux, one of Europe’s most important early-season parks. Jumps, rails and creative transfers offer the perfect setup for pro riders, rookies and everyone in between.
FROM FIRST LAPS TO LATE NIGHTS
The program delivers everything a true season opener needs: Werni Stock returns with his legendary “Transfer Games”, while the youngest riders collect their first memories of the new season during the “Kids Shred” with Gigi Rüf. At the open Rock A Rail qualification, snowboarders and freeskiers go for a spot in the big finals at the valley station, where the Rock A Rail Tour 2026 officially enters its hot phase for the autumn season.
On top of that, visitors can look forward to on-snow tests featuring the latest products from leading brands, the traditional movie night and long nights at the Hohenhaus Tenne - exactly the mix of snowboarding, friendships and shared memories that has made the Hintertux Park Opening so special for the past 22 years. The Hintertux Park Opening is far more than just an event - it is tradition with true community spirit and arguably Europe’s most consistent start to winter.
Werni´s Transfer Games by Quiksilver & NITRO
“Werni’s Transfer Games” mark the first big air session of the season at Betterpark Hintertux. Designed as a team session, it’s all about creativity on the big jump with different transfer options, style and airtime. Ride together, get creative and have fun as a team. The session is open to everyone who wants to give it a try.
ROCK A RAIL
GET YOUR SPOT
For the second year in a row, the Hintertux Park Opening is part of the Rock A Rail Tour. While the tour already kicked off in January in Budapest, Hintertux marks the beginning of the hot phase with several more events scheduled throughout autumn. Open to everyone, snowboarders and skiers have the chance to qualify for the big final during the qualification event up on the mountain. The best riders will secure their spot and join the invited riders for Saturday’s showdown at the valley station.

For over two decades, Betterpark Hintertux high up on the glacier has been the first choice for riders from all over the world to kick off the new winter season in early autumn. Known for its diverse setup and perfectly shaped features, the park offers lines for every riding level. Whether beginner, advanced or pro - everyone will find their flow at Betterpark Hintertux. Wille Kaufmann and his crew keep the setup fresh and ever-changing until early December.
Kids Shred by Gigi
The Kids Shred has become a true Opening tradition. Hosted by Slash Snowboards and snowboard legend Gigi Rüf together with Ästhetiker veteran Steve Gruber, the session gives young riders the chance to ride, learn and get inspired by some of the sport’s most iconic personalities. Photographer Markus “Fischi” Fischer captures all the unforgettable moments along the way. The stoke, motivation and energy of the next generation prove that the future of snowboarding is in good hands.

CANARY CARTELPLAYGROUND SESSION
The Canary Cartel Playground Session returns on Sunday at noon directly in front of the Fernerhaus. Everyone is welcome to hit the playful setup and enjoy one final Opening session together. Good vibes, creative riding and the chance to win burger vouchers for the nearby restaurant included.
Live in CONCERT - SEMPRE CAOZ
With their band SEMPRE CAOZ, four friends from Tyrol have developed from a small punk attraction into a rock band over the years. With their performances at home and abroad, they are known for their energetic shows. Dirty guitars, smashed drums, powerful bass and screaming vocals are just a few facets of Semper Caoz. In 2023 the band released there album DUST. A self-written and produced production during the pandemic. You can hear a varied songwriting, whereby the focus for the Alternative Rock genre has not been lost from sight A little dark but very focused, they aim to express their feelings from this time. movie premiere night
Friday night is Movie Premiere Night. For one evening, the Tux Center turns into a cinema showcasing the latest snowboard movies. Movie lineup will be announced soon.

Test before you buy. If you want to check out the latest gear of the 2026/27 winter season, make sure to visit the demo village located at the Fernerhaus. The snowboard and freeski industry will be onsite with a huge selection of brand-new products ready to test on snow.
